Riya: Where do you currently live?

Alisa: Auckland, New Zealand

Riya: What are some of your earliest memories of migration?
​
Alisa: Going to the airport and packing huge amounts of clothing into a suitcase
​
Riya: Please explain any difficulties or challenges that you encountered as you attempted to move from one country to another.

Alisa: Language barriers. We couldn’t speak English and we had trouble understanding how things worked in New Zealand.

Riya: How long have you been in New Zealand?

Alisa: 7 years
​
Riya: What was the first community that you entered in New Zealand?
​
Alisa: My school. Everyone was white and I had trouble making friends.
​
Riya: Do you feel that you enjoy the same human rights as white citizens in New Zealand?
​
Alisa: There are times at school and in the community where you do get discriminated because of the colour of your skin and it is always a very sensitive matter.
